This was quite exciting as this was the first time we were crossing Utah borders.
It would also be the start of the worst roads we were going to encounter in our trip, as we were introduced to the famous Utah tar snake.

In an effort to keep traffic flowing on aging roadway systems, government agencies, resort to using crack sealant on the roads. The aim is to prevent the road from cracking further and creating a situation where replacement of the road becomes immediately necessary. This type of road repair may not mean a lot to “cagers”, those drivers of four wheeled vehicles, but it means a heckuva lot to us two-wheeled fun seekers.
A motorcycle’s traction can be compromised by the bituminous rubberized asphalt sealer used for crack repair. In summer, at high temperatures, these sealed cracks can pose quite the traction challenges for riders.
We really enjoyed our time in Southern Utah but we did not like the road conditions. One has to be specially attentive all the time.
